Samsung debuted a new tablet today, a smaller one, the 8.4 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020). It’s an entry level slate aimed at kids and it comes in WiFi and 4G versions. It’s priced up from $280 and it’ll be sold in USA first, via carriers like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, as well as US Cellular.
The product only has one version, with 32 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM, but there’s also a microSD card slot in the mix. It’s available only in the color Mocha and comes with a polycarbonate body, that’s light and slim. Bezels are a bit on the big side for the 8.4 inch TFT LCD screen panel, with Full HD resolution. We also get an octa core Exynos 7904 CPU, an upgrade from the Snapdragon 429 of the predecessor. Samsung promises that the 5000 mAh battery on board will offer up to 12 hours of video playback, or 11 hours of Internet time on a single charge.
Other specs include an 8 MP main camera and a 5 MP front shooter. Connectivity includes WiFi dual band, Bluetooth 5.0 and 4G LTE, plus an USB-C port with Fast Charging. There’s even a 3.5 mm audio jack. The product sadly runs only Android 9.0 Pie, not Android 10, but it may get it later in the future. Since the Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) is meant for kids, Samsung also offers a 30 day free trial for its Samsung Kids Plus service, which offers educational content and as an extra bonus, the second month will be just 50 cents.
