ZTE wants to follow the phablet trend, so after the Samsung Galaxy Note and the LG Optimus Vu 5.3 incher and 5 incher models respectively we now have another giant device to join the duo. The Chinese company intends to sell 50 million smartphones this year and double the tablet sales, according to Reuters.

Lv Qianhao, head of handset strategy at ZTE says that the company he’s part of wants to come up with the next generation of Galaxy Note-style product. The result is a combination between tablet and phone and since the Galaxy Note became popular enough to sell over 5 million units, there’s always room on the market for an alternative. ZTE hasn’t detailed exactly what its product will bring, so while the Galaxy Note had that killer stylus and S Pen apps, the Optimus Vu from LG has the 4:3 aspect ratio and squared format… so now what?

ZTE will first of all have to work on a lower price, then maybe a better camera, or perhaps some killer apps or unique interface. They would really make things interesting with a Windows 8 phablet, but that’s far from our minds right now…
