Hewlett-Packard just announced a new Windows 8 tablet called ElitePad 900, a business-friendly device that will come in January. It appears that all those mystery ads we’ve been reporting about, the ones involving a tablet with HP branding were actually referring to this model.
ElitePad 900 is a 10 inch Windows 8 device for business users and it comes with pen input, drive encryption and even optional 3G/4G connectivity. The ElitePad has a premium look, with a machined aluminum back cover and 400 nit IPS display protected by Gorilla Glass. It also has something in common with the EliteBooks, the military MIL-spec 810G durability requirements, being able to withstand 3 foot drops, among other accidents. The device weighs 1.5 pounds and measures 9.2 mm in thickness.
At the inside we find an Atom-based Intel Clover Trail ticker, 2 GB of RAM and your choice of a 32 or 64 GB SSD. The display on board here has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and at the back we find an 8 megapixel camera and a Full HD cam at the front for video calls. There’s also a service door on the device’s back with two slots: one for microSD and another one for 3G/4G SIM cards. HP will also sell accessories for the device two SmartJackets cases, that offer USB ports, HDMI output, a full size memory card slot and even an optional battery, with an extra capacity of 8 hours. Sadly we have no pricing for this newcomer, but at least we know it comes in January…
