RIM’s got two software initiatives up its sleeve for this year, one for its tablets and the other one for smartphones. I’m talking about the PlayBook OS 2.0 and BB 10 OS respectively, with the first being already announced as CES 2012 material, while the handset OS will make it to MWC.
Lately Research in Motion has been having problems, losing the trademark to the BBX OS, having a very bad set of quarterly results, problems with employees and CEOs and an overall damaged public image. Now they must do something to innovate the market or at least make their products a bit more appealing. Software is the key here, since their hardware isn’t the landmark it used to be in the past.
RIM sent out invites promising “an intimate event” in Las Vegas, on January 10th, where they’ll showcase the features of the new PlayBook OS. Hands-on experiences will be available, although you shouldn’t fret too much, since last I heard it was delayed till February. I guess one can only hope that there will also be a PlayBook 2 tablet in there…
