Intel has a lot of hopes for the future of tablets and they intend to release 5 new Ivy Bridge processors for tablets, in low power versions. These models will come as soon as Q1 2013 and we’ve got a full lineup of the Mobile Y processor specifications below.
The new chips may be seen in the future on Windows 8 slates, hybrids and convertibles. These new Mobile Y chips involve the new Core i branding and there’s also a Pentium model at the bottom of the lineup. These chips will be clocked at 1.1 to 1.5 GHz. The Core i5 and i7 chips come with Turbo Boost ability for overclocking up to 2.6 GHz. The Core i3, i5 and i7 units will also get the Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphical solution. The idea is to get more power than your average Intel Atom CPU and also a low consumption.
Longer battery life and good performance are expected and desired from Intel chipsets of the future. There are new ARM chips in the making right now, from Qualcomm, Samsung and other big names, that will increase the power and decrease the consumption, so Intel has all the reason to rush into a new generation of chips. People tend to avoid Intel slates, because of their poor battery life and bulky aspect, but maybe the new generation of CPUs will change this perception.
