Apple’s next foldable could address one of the first iPhone Duo’s apparent camera compromises. An unverified image shared by leaker Majin Bu appears to show a purported iPhone Duo 2 prototype with three large rear camera circles rather than the current model’s two.
The device in the photo retains the black, elongated camera bar and horizontal lens layout associated with the iPhone Duo, but the module looks longer to accommodate an additional sensor. The most likely interpretation is a main camera, ultrawide camera, and telephoto camera. That third lens has not been confirmed, however, so its type and any optical zoom capability remain unknown.
Face ID may join the hardware changes
Separate information concerning Apple prototypes indicates the second-generation foldable may add Face ID. It is not yet clear whether facial authentication would work alongside the fingerprint sensor used on the current iPhone Duo or replace it entirely.
The iPhone Duo 2 is currently expected in the second half of 2027, leaving considerable time for Apple to alter the hardware before a final design is set. For foldable buyers who want a phone that is more useful for distant subjects as well as large-screen mobile work, a telephoto camera and Face ID would be meaningful upgrades—but both remain unconfirmed at this stage.
