In this article you can see a bunch of leaked screenshots showing Windows 8.1 Update 1 and apps minimized to the taskbar in desktop mode. Turns out we could be able to run apps with the new UI in the traditional Windows environment. Minimize and close buttons are not the only thing we’ll get, but also an option to boot straight into desktop by default this time.

This means we’ll be forced to enter desktop by default when we turn on the device, which is not necessarily a bad thing. You can also fire Metro apps from within the desktop and the Start button could also regain its older functionality. How do these features sound to you? Don’t you just hate it when a company takes out features and then puts them back and calls them upgrade?
