Last week the web was abuzz with the mysterious group of people chanting and showing “Wake Up” panels in front of an Australian Apple Store. Everyone blamed Samsung at the moment, but now Research in Motion came up and took the blame. Richelle Gillet, account director of Spectrum Communications for BlackBerry said that RIM Australia is behind this “protest”.

They call this “experiential activities” taking place across Sydney and Melbourne, detailed in the video below. May 7th is when the purpose of this campaign will be unveiled and there appears to be some new product brewing. Even the blogger Blunty that started the commotion seems to be linked to RIM somehow, especially since he did a 3 part video review of the PlayBook last year. RIM is in no position to pull such stunts, since they don’t have any leading product on the market now, but they could be preparing to launch one, through this campaign.

Could it be a new PlayBook, maybe a 10 inch one? And also seeing that some people are convinced Samsung is involved, could they announce on May 7th that they were bought by Samsung?! Imagine RIM + Sammy business phones with BBM and all their calendars and messaging features, plus their QNX OS and BlackBerry 10 mixed with the Android experience. But let’s not speculate ahead of time…
