Today we’ve got the mother of all price reductions, as the Microsoft Surface Pro slate reaches $499 at Best Buy. Apparently, the retailer wants to move its stock ASAP and make room for the second gen Surface.

Best Buy is thus offering a huge $400 discount for the original Surface Pro, bringing the price down to just $499.99. The old model doesn’t have an adjustable kickstand and it also doesn’t come with the extra battery life brought on by Intel’s Haswell chip, but it’s basically the same otherwise. The device features a 10.6 inch 1920 x 1080 pixel display and also a Wacom digitizer and stylus.

We’ve got 128 GB of storage available and Best Buy’s Surface Pro deal is only available today and tomorrow. For the storage alone I’d say this is a pretty good deal. By the way, the same retailer offers $100 off Apple MacBooks, so they’re going all out this weekend.

This “deal” is the same as HP’s 2 years ago, remember? The price is very good now for a Core i5 tablet. Really. But in my country is not available, not officially not even on the black market 🙂 Even the Surface Pro 2 is still not available and I have customers to recommend it.
