After a late-2025 launch event in Dubai, Huawei has officially introduced the new MatePad Mini to European markets. Designed as a direct rival to iPad mini, the device targets users who want a small, lightweight tablet with premium display tech and strong productivity features.
The MatePad Mini features an 8.8-inch Flexible OLED PaperMatte display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 2.5K resolution and a 92% screen-to-body ratio. It reaches up to 1800 nits of brightness, supports 120Hz refresh rate, and integrates an anti-reflection optical film for improved eye comfort.
The tablet runs HarmonyOS 4.3 and includes Huawei’s advanced multitasking tools, plus support for the Huawei M-Pencil Pro for note-taking, sketching and precise editing. Huawei has not confirmed the chipset powering the device.
On the back, the MatePad Mini carries a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with OIS, paired with an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide macro sensor. Video capture goes up to 4K. The front camera reaches 32MP for calls and selfies.
Power comes from a 6400 mAh battery with 66W Huawei SuperCharge. The company promises long-term battery health over a three-year period. The device weighs just 255 g, measures 5.1 mm in thickness, and uses a magnesium alloy frame with a 3D vegan-fiber back.
Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2, dual speakers and sensors such as a fingerprint reader, gyroscope and ambient light sensor. In China, prices start at 3,999 yuan (around 2,500 lei), with configurations offering 8 GB or 12 GB RAM and up to 256 GB storage. Color options include Spruce Green and Graphite Black. The M-Pencil Pro and Folio Cover are sold separately.
For Europe the expected retail price is likely to hover around 500 euros.
