Today’s Google event finally brought us the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phones, plus the laptop that already leaked a bunch of times, the Pixelbook. This Chromebook sure is atypical, bringing forth a few premieres to the table. Those include a 360 degree rotating screen, a stylus and more.
For one, this is the first Chrome OS laptop with built in Google Assistant, so much so that it even includes a physical button for it. The configs go up to a Core i7 processor, accompanied by 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. There’s also the starting model, at $999, with a Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The Pixelbook can be used in laptop mode of course, but also tent and tablet mode. It’s got a 12.3 inch 2460 x 1600 pixel resolution, 10 hours of battery life and it all weighs 2.2 pounds.
The list goes on with a 3 axis gyroscope, backlit keyboard and a 720p webcam. Everything is packed within an aluminum body and we also get a stereo set of speakers. Fast charging should offer 2 hours of usage after a 15 minute charge.
There’s an extra input method, the Pixel Pen, priced at $99 and sold separately. This accessory can be used to highlight or circle content, or bring up more info from the Google Assistant screen. It’s not your average pen, as it has Wacom technology, supports over 2000 levels of pressure and 60 degrees of tilt detection. 10 ms of latency are also here, for a very responsive experience.
The product goes on preorder first in US, UK and Canada today and it should ship on October 31st.
