The Xiaomi Mi Pad was a very solid tablet when it debuted, so everybody was excited by its follow-up. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 was launched in November 2015 and it was instantly regarded as the iPad Mini 4 killer. It has arrived on our test table and it’s unboxed below.
This is a 7.9 inch slate with a price of $186 for the 16 GB model and $258 for the 64 GB unit. The box is pretty compact and inside we find a small charger, the USB Type-C cable and manuals. Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 measures 6.95 mm in thickness and weighs 322 grams, which means it’s heavier and thicker than the iPad Mini 4, that measures 6.1 mm in thickness and weighs 299 grams.
Mi Pad 2 adopts a full metal body, unlike the first Mi Pad, that had a plastic case and integrates a 7.9 inch screen with a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution, plus a quad core Intel Atom X5-Z8500 chipset, clocked at 2.2 GHz. Other specs include 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a main 8 MP camera and a front 5 MP shooter. There’s WiFi, Bluetooth and USB Type C and the battery is a 6190 mAh unit.
There’s no microSD card slot here and the OS is Android 5.0.1 with MIUI 7 on top. We’ve got dual speakers at the back and just so you know, the 64 GB model also comes with Windows 10, not only Android. The UI we just mentioned looks very clean and minimalistic and we look forward to playing with it more. We’ll be back with a full review soon.
If you’re tempted, you can get the tablet from GearBest for $186.
