I’m sure you’re well aware of the dispute between Apple and Chinese company Proview. The latter sued Apple on account of using the “iPad” trademark that the Chinese company owned from back in 2000 or so. Now we have a look at that Proview’s iPAD product is really about:

As you can see, the device is an all in one PC that looks like the iMac. The iPAD debuted in 1998 and Proview only made around 10k to 20k of the CRT-based desktops. In 2010 the company went under and abandoned its Shenzhen plant. Most of the assets were seized by different banks, including the iPad trademark, that Apple got from one of the company’s subsidiaries. And now we’re reached the present, when Chinese authorities are removing Apple iPad slates from shop windows…

Once again back to the past, Proview’s iPAD featured a 15 inch 800 x 600 CRT monitor, a 265 MHz CPU, 32 MB DRAM, 16GB DROM flash card for storage, two USB ports, an Ethernet port, two RJ-11 jacks, headphone and mic ports and two PS/2 keyboard/mouse ports. With the iMac introduced in the same year as the iPAD I wonder why Apple and Proview never argued on how similar their products are before…
