Dynabook is a name that may not sound familiar to some of you, but in fact it’s the renamed Toshiba Client Solutions division. It’s no wonder they’re making Portege laptops, including the 3 new ones detailed below.

The newcomers have a few things in common, like the fact they weigh less than 3 pounds and come with Whiskey Lake processors. They’re slated for an August shipping time frame. Dynabook Portege X30 is the most compact of the bunch, with a 13.3 inch display and measuring just 15.9 mm in thickness. It weighs 2.3 pounds and it’s quite compact for a device that goes up to 32 GB of RAM and a Core i7 CPU.

There are touch enabled and non touch versions of the machine, with up to 1 TB of SATA or PCIe SSD storage. Security is paramount, as there’s a fingerprint/TPM or smartcard option. Webcam and IR optional camera are also a thing.

Next up is Dynabook Tecra X40 and I remember the name Tecra from back in the day. In this case we get a 14 inch Full HD screen, also of the touch or non touch variety, plus Core i3, up to Core i7 versions and the same setup for security and SSD storage or the webcam and IR camera.

We go smaller and lower end with the Dynabook Portege A30, that has a 13.3 inch screen, that even comes with a HD version, not just Full HD. There’s up to 24 GB of RAM, up to 1 TB storage, Celeron to Core i7 CPUs and webcam, fingerprint, IR camera combos. Under 3 pounds in weight, 19.9 mm thick.

Expect premium prices, deductible by enterprises. By the way, nice trackpoint and DIMM slots are something you don’t see every day.
