DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim recently discussed with CNET the plans of Apple for the future tablets they will launch in 2012. It appears production has already started, for some 10 inch panels with 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution. The same analyst seems sure that the displays will be available on devices in shops in Q1 2012, strange as that may seem.

Apparently, the iPad 3 is expected to be shipped in January, if we’re to take the word of DisplaySearch on this evolution. The Senior VP of the company, Paul Semenza has spoken to Jon Philips of Wired and mentioned that an iPad 3 with 2048 x 1536 resolution is in the books for the first quarter of 2012. The same source goes on to detail that Apple might launch a new iPad model with a 7.85 inch display, that will hit the market close to the end of 2012.

I’ve heard this theory before, saying that the next iPad will be the HD display version of the iPad 2, while the next device after that might be an iPad mini, with a 7+ inch display and also serving as a remote for the potential Apple iTV television set. One thing is for sure: everyone wants a Retina Display on a tablet and 264 pixels per inch on the new slate.
