Dell debuted new products part of its Latitude series, this time a series of rugged laptops, that are ready to take a beating. They can take tough weather, extreme heat, cold and even some rough contacts, plus they have hot swap batteries. We have details below.

The new lineup includes models like the Dell Latitude 7424 Rugged Extreme, plus the Latitude 5424 and 5420. Here they are:

Dell Latitude 7424 Rugged Extreme

This one is the best specced of the bunch, with a choice of Intel 6th, 7th and 8th gen Core CPUs, plus up to 4 TB of SSD storage and up to 32 GB of RAM. There’s a 14 inch anti glare screen in the mix, with a Full HD resolution and support for input with gloves. It’s also very bright and it stays legible even in full sunlight. There’s also graphics on board, with optional AMD Radeon 540 and RX540.

Then there’s WiFi, a LTE modem if you want and a 51 Whr primary battery, as well as a secondary one with hot swap. The device can work in temperatures from 20 degrees below zero to 145 degrees Fahrenheit. It also has MIL-STD-810G certification, for resilience to drops from up to 6 feet. It can take dust, sand, rain, explosive atmosphere, solar radiation and salt fog.

Of course it runs on Windows and it’s encrypted. The price starts at $3500.

Dell Latitude 5424 and 5420 Rugged

These are lesser specced models, so the 5424 Rugged and the slimmer 5420 are more affordable. They’re also new to the range. The 5424 and 5420 Rugged have pretty much the same specs as the 7424 Rugged Extreme, but with less resilience of the case. They can take drops from lower (up to three feet) and they weigh less (5.5 pounds and 4.9 pounds respectively).

The thermal resilience stays unchanged and so does the vibration, shock, humidity and salt toughness. Inside we find the same choice of Intel Core 6, 7 and 8th gen CPUs, plus up to 32 GB of RAM and 4 TB of SSD storage, at least for the 5424. The 5420 goes only up to 2 TB of storage. Windows Hello IR camera and fingerprint scanner are also here.

Dell Latitude 5424 starts at $1500 and Latitude 5420 at $1400. Connectivity is generous, with HDMI, RJ45, audio jack, SD card slot, SIM card slot, VGA, USB 3.0, mini USB and Type-C.
