Chuwi continues to expand its product lineup and this time they’re coming up with a 4K laptop that may break price barriers. Laptops with 4K displays were already a thing for a while now, but turns out they can also be affordable. A crazy sum of $440 brings you such a device from

The Chuwi LapBook Plus is the device in question, a laptop that’s up on preorder on the above mentioned retailer for that special price. The actual retail price isn’t half bad either, at $499. The product mixes premium and budget specs and offers a 4K display with 100% sRGB color gamut and HDR support. These are things you’d encounter on a smartphone that’s double this price, just saying.

Some parts of the bargain are shocking, like having an aluminum-magnesium chassis, a backlit keyboard and even two M.2 slots for two SSDs. Compromises include an Intel Atom x7-E950 Apollo Lake CPU, a quad core 1.6 GHz chip, with a 12 watt TDP. That’s not flattering to be honest, but at least we get 9 hours of usage courtesy of a 36.5 Wh battery.

Of course the 4K thing may eat well into those hours. The screen is a 15.6 incher by the way and we also get 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of M.2 SSD storage, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB 3.0 plus 2.0 ports. There’s also micro HDMI, a microSD card slot and 2 MP webcam. Everything is packed inside a 3.4 pound device with stereo speakers. You can get the device here.
