When we talk about Windows 8 and Win RT we usually discuss about Intel chips or ARM chips, but now there’s also AMD, with an interesting product, that throws away Android compatibility. AMD’s tablet chip codenamed Hondo is supposed to run windows 8 and Linux, but not Android, according to AMD corporate VP Steve Belt.
He said that in an interview with The Inquirer and claims that the lack of Android compatibility comes from AMD’s decision not to spread in other markets. This means we won’t be seeing Windows and Android dual booting devices, although ASUS showed us that this combo is possible at Computex. Well, at least Hondo supports Linux and that’s a bonus from Intel’s Clover Trail, rumored not to support the famous platform. Anyway, I guess it’s just a matter of hacking to get Android to run on an AMD-based machine, right?
Or is the architecture built in such a way you can’t run Android no matter what? I don’t think they can do stuff like that nowadays, since it would be awkward and useless. Where does AMD fit in the picture here, with Intel and the likes of Qualcomm and Nvidia dividing up tablet makers for their latest Windows initiatives? Honestly they should focus on desktops and leave tablets alone for now…
