Apple held a big event yesterday, during which it unveiled the iPhone 13 series, but also new iPads. First there was the iPad Mini 6 and also we got an upgrade for the basic educational iPad. The iPad 10.2 (2021), aka iPad 9 now gets a new CPU and a new front camera.
The new 10.2 inch iPad is powered by the Apple A13 Bionic processor, which provides a 20% performance jump from the Apple A12 Bionic from last year. The screen size, resolution and bezels stay the same. It’s also compatible with the same accessories as the previous model, including the first gen Apple Pencil. It also has True Tone and now its basic storage is 64 GB instead of 32 GB.
The back camera remains the same, but with a new ISP associated to the Apple A13 Bionic CPU. The front camera is upgraded to a 12 MP sensor with a 120 degree ultrawide lens ideal for Facetime. This means it supports Apple’s Center Stage, which keeps you in the frame during a video call even if you’re moving around. The improved Neural Engine in the A13 Bionic CPU will enable new tasks like Like Text, an iPadOS 15 feature that uses machine learning to recognize text found in images.
Color-wise, we don’t get Gold anymore, but we do get Space Gray and Silver. The price starts at $329 for the Wi-Fi only model and the cellular one is $459. The product can be ordered from today and it will be available from September 24th.
