HP is no stranger to the education segment, already having Chromebooks, printers and a slew of other devices in schools and colleges. This time they’re launching new Chromebooks, 4 models, with feature Intel Gemini Lake or Intel Gemini Lake Refresh CPUs. We have details below.
These models are rather versatile, some of them with rotating screens, some even offering an AMD version and spill resistant keyboards. So, here’s each model with a rundown:
HP Chromebook 11 x360 G3 EE
We start off with a convertible, the HP Chromebook 11 x360 G3 EE, that packs an 11.6 inch screen with a 1366 x 768 pixel display, that offers touch input. It also has a 360 degree hinge and can be used in tent mode, tablet or stand mode. It should be sold starting in February, packing an Intel Celeron N4120 processor, accompanied by up to 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of eMMC 5.0 storage. There’s also pen support (Wacom EMR and all that), plus two USB 3.1 Type-C ports, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and an audio jack.
There’s a spill resistant keyboard here, a microSD card slot and stereo speakers. We’ve got a 47.36 Wh battery in the mix as well. Believe it or not, there’s also a dual camera option here. It all weighs 3.2 pounds and it’s priced at $299.
HP Chromebook 11 G8 EE
This is a lighter laptop, at 2.9 pounds, but it lacks the touchscreen and 360 degree hinge. Of course you can choose the optional touchscreen and otherwise specs stay the same: same CPU as above, RAM quantity and storage. Even the port choice and connectivity options are the same. This one is sold from this month at $259.
HP Chromebook 11A G8 EE
With only one “A” letter apart from the unit above, this device is the odd duck, since it offers an AMD chip in lieu of an Intel one. HP Chromebook 11A G8 EE has an AMD A4-9120C, with Radeon R4 graphics or an AMD A6-9220C processor with Radeon R5 graphics. It should be sold from February, with 8 GB of RAM, up to 32 GB of eMMC storage and an 11.6 inch 1366 x 768 pixel display.
Spill resilience is also here and the device can even survive a fall from a height of up to 4 feet, but only on wood. It’s 2.5 feet on concrete.
HP Chromebook 14 G6
Sands “EE” in the name, the HP Chromebook 14 G6 is not only meant for education. It’s a 14 inch Chromebook, with an Intel Celeron N4120 processor, up to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Buyers can choose between HD and Full HD screen panels and specs include two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port and a HDMI 1.4b port, as well as a wide angle HD webcam, accompanied by two microphones. There’s a 47.36 Wh battery and a 45W USB-C charge.
This a bit more buff, at 3.4 pounds. It’s priced at $289.
