Since Microsoft doesn’t have the Surface Pro 5 ready just yet, we may as well enjoy the alternatives. HP just debuted the Elite x2 1012 G2, the latest 2 in 1 enterprise machine and a definite looker, judging by the pictures below.
Interestingly HP is keeping out of the current craze for new and improved gaming PCs, with Lenovo launching Legion models and Acer new Predators. HP has its head in the game and it’s making a solid convertible tablet, with a non fanless design. It’s supposed to be a collaborative item, with Skype Business in the mix, so the front facing 5 MP camera is justified.
The seventh gen Kaby Lake CPU is inside, an U Series Intel processor, usually found on higher end ultrabooks. Options range from Core i3 to Core i7 and we also get a 47 Whr battery. Clad in aluminum, the newcomer is even thinner than the Surface Pro 4, at 0.36 inches in waistline. The screen is a 12.3 inch touch unit, with a resolution to match the one of the Surface Pro 4: 2736 x 1824 pixels.
Of course Windows 10 is the OS of choice and we also get Intel HD Graphics 620, up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of SSD storage. 10 hours of functioning time are promised on paper and 30 minutes of charge juice up the machine to 50%. Connectivity is all about the USB-C 3.1 Thunderbolt, but there’s also a full sized USB 3.0, a SIM Card slot and microSD.
To round it up we’ve got a main 8 MP camera with LED flash, front facing stereo speakers, a fingerprint scanner and IR camera for authentication. The whole contraption sets you back $1099 and availability is slated for July.
