Toshiba intends to start selling Windows tablets with low prices this year and small screen sizes. They will include 8 inchers in their offer from July, but they could go to even lower diagonals in the future. One example is their brand new 7 inch Windows 8.1 slate unveiled at Computex.
The show takes place in Taiwan and hosted Toshiba’s latest slate, priced at less than $150, or at least its maker says so. Obviously, the specs match the price and we get a 7 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display, with limited viewing angles, because of the fact this is a TN panel after all. Inside the device there’s a 1.33 GHz Intel Atom Z3735 quad core processor and 1 GB of RAM, as well as 16 GB of storage.
For now, the product is dubbed Toshiba Encore 7 and its prototype comes with a micro HDMI port, a micro USB one as well, a microSD card slot and Windows 8.1 software. There’s a front webcam in the mix, an audio jack and a single speaker. From the hands on video below I gather that we get some less than impressive view angles and a bulky case…
