Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huan confirmed last week, during the company’s quarterly earnings call that we’re going to see the first Tegra 4 tablets soon enough, since they’re already in development. The bulk of Tegra 4 products will hit the market in the second half of the year.
Huang even predicted some entry level PCs, not only phones and tablets. It seems that this CPU is strong enough to make it to a more varied segment of products, ranging from gaming consoles, like the Project shield, the HP SlateBook 10 x2 10 inch tablet phones and even PCs. The processor was unveiled in January 2013 at CES and it features 4 Cortex A15 CPU cores clocked at 1.9 GHz, with a fifth battery saving core for low processing tasks.
There’s also a 72 core GPU with support for up to 3200 x 2000 LED displays and Ultra HD video via HDMI. The chip follows Tegra 3, that was based on the Cortex A9. There’s also the Tegra 4i incoming, with 4 Cortex A9 r4 GPU cores and the fifth battery saver and 60 custom GPU cores. This version brings an integrated software defined i500 LTE modem.
Looking forward to seeing the goods!
