Toshiba has just entered a segment where Acer seemed alone till now: sub 10 inch Window 8 slates. Toshiba’s Encore is an 8 inch Windows 8.1 slate with a $330 price tag and it may just become a hit when it debuts in November.
Just like the rival model Acer W3, this newcomer runs on an Intel Atom CPU, but this time it’s a new generation Intel quad core Bay Trail. The device is optimized for Windows 8.1, it has dual microphones and a 2 MP front camera, getting Skype certification for those babies. The product supports a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, integrates 32 GB of storage and extra storage is offered via microSD.
Toshiba Encore weighs 479 grams, it has a matte plastic case and it comes with the full version of Office Home & Student 2013 preinstalled, as well as Xbox Smartglass and free streaming pass to Xbox Music. Norton Anti Theft is also bundled and all of those are packed within a silver textured case with a slim 10.68 mm waistline. There’s an 8 megapixel camera at the back, GPS, accelerometer, stereo speakers and a micro HDMI port on board.
