Microsoft details an important aspect in Windows, the SkyDrive Metro app, that might be the driving force behind all the cloud work that people will do on the next MS platform. After all, when putting so little storage on the Windows Phone handsets, Microsoft always justified the choice through Skydrive and its capacity for storage.

The app allows people to save files to the SkyDrive website and access or share them via the web. In the future SkyDrive will combine Microsoft’s Live Mesh sync service with the whole file storing and web service idea. The Building Windows 8 blog says that the new SkyDrive Metro app will use files integrated into Windows Explorer on the desktop. You will also have the ability to fetch remote files through SkyDrive.com. Desktop file syncing supports files of up to 2 GB in size and support easy drag and drop upload and download.

Offline access and Windows Explorer file management of files and folders are also included. The Windows 8 SkyDrive app seems ready to take on DropBox and other rivals in the field, like Apple’s iCloud. Now let’s wait for Windows 8’s app store to launch…
