Samsung is moving pretty fast with tablet software updates these days, as the Galaxy Tab 2 Active has just been updated. The device got its taste of Android 8.1 Oreo in Italy, together with the yet unannounced November 2018 security patch. Let’s see what’s new.
Keep in mind this isn’t 100% a premiere, since the Galaxy J7 Prime received the new patch earlier in the week. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Active Oreo runs on Android 8.1 now and it received the software version T395XXU3BRJ5. There should be an updated Samsung Keyboard app here, with new high contrast themes and also new emojis. Dual Messenger is also here, picture in picture too, as well as improved App Shortcuts for the home screen and app drawer.
There are also smaller changes within the OS, which aren’t worth mentioning. It could take days or weeks for the update to reach more countries. People in Italy are surely able to perform the download right now, goign tot he Settings app and the Software Update menu. Interestingly, only the 4G model seems to be getting it, not the WiFi only one. Just in case the device doesn’t sound familiar to you, it’s an 8 incher with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, an Exynos 7870 CPU, 16 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM.
It’s of course focused on the rugged case, takes water dunks and also has stereo speakers and military standard certifications.
