Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 has been in the news quite a bit lately, on account of the fact it was leaked. Or better said, its codename, colors and OS have leaked and today we learn one more detail: apparently it’ll have at least one camera under the display…
In the meantime there are reputed sources like Ice Universe saying that there’s no way this would happen. Turns out that this innovation isn’t even going to make it to the Galaxy S11 or Galaxy Fold 2, instead being kept for a potential Galaxy A. This would make sense, seeing how Galaxy A models have been experimental sometimes. The Galaxy A80 and Galaxy A9 (2018) come to mind.
Samsung and the likes of Vivo and Oppo have been trying to figure out how to integrate a camera within a display for a while now. We’ve seen notches, punch hole cameras, even externalized notch patents and pop up cameras. The latest achievement should see the cam hidden right below the glass panel and use a transparent portion of it for pictures.
There are a lot of things that need to align here, starting from the transparent glass and going to the camera sensor and its lens. Actually a part of the screen would have to have the same properties as lens, which is tricky. Galaxy Fold itself had a few novel technologies, like UFS 3.0 storage and 5G when it was announced, so the Fold 2 may also debut new stuff.
