Pixel 11 Testing Raises Sustained-Performance Questions for Tensor G6

For buyers who use a phone as a gaming device, a camera workstation, or a compact productivity machine, sustained speed matters more than a short benchmark burst. Early testing of Google’s Pixel 11 family suggests the Tensor G6 may struggle most in that longer-running scenario, with the GPU emerging as a particular concern.

Notebookcheck measured the Pixel 11 Pro’s GPU at 414,765 points under artificially cold conditions, then at 40,362 points after the phone reached 36.7°C. That latter result is below 10% of the score recorded in the cooled run. The CPU held up better in the same reporting, pointing to the PowerVR GPU as the more temperature-sensitive component.

Separate CPU Throttling Test results showed a similar sustained-load pattern across two Tensor G6 phones: the Pixel 11 lost 66% of its performance after 15 minutes at 36.6°C, while the Pixel 11 Pro XL lost 65% at 37.6°C. These are not the same tests as the GPU measurements, so their percentages should not be compared directly. Together, however, they indicate that prolonged gaming, intensive camera processing, or other heavy workloads may not maintain peak performance.

Google is preparing a camera fix

The clearest software issue is a camera-audio bug Google has acknowledged for the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL. Some users have reported popping sounds and bursts of static in Video Boost footage, at times recurring every few seconds. Google told 9to5Google that it has identified the cause and is working on a remedy.

The company expects to deliver the initial fix through a Camera app update in the coming weeks, followed by further optimizations in a monthly Android update. That gives affected owners a defined software path forward, unlike the thermal behavior seen in the Tensor G6 testing.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has a durability caveat, too

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has also shown a potential weak point in an extreme bend test by JerryRigEverything. The device broke near antenna lines close to the hinge, roughly the same area that had been problematic in earlier generations. A deliberately forceful bend test is not evidence that the foldable will break during normal pocket use, but it does suggest Google has not fully eliminated that structural vulnerability.

Google has begun distributing an unusual out-of-cycle update for the Pixel 11 series with the September security patch and broad references to stability and critical fixes. There is no public change log tying that update to the reported touch, connectivity, Wi-Fi battery-drain, or boot-loop complaints, which remain less firmly established than the Video Boost bug and the measured throttling results.

For light everyday use, these findings do not establish that every Pixel 11 model will be problematic. But they are more meaningful for buyers expecting long gaming sessions, extended camera capture, or consistently high performance from Google’s newest silicon. The camera issue has a promised fix; how much Tensor G6 throttling affects day-to-day demanding use will require broader real-world testing.
