The “One Laptop Per Child” project is evolving, with Nicholas Negroponte at its helm and we can see the man talking about future OLPC units in the video below. It turns out that the company wants to hit the $75 mark with the following version of the OLPC, the XO-3, that looks quite promising if the unit shown in the clip becomes real.
Apparently, it’ll be unveiled at CES 2011 and the new OLPC will be a tablet for children, combining the iPad, laptops and Kindle into a single device. At CES 2012 we’ll see a plastic and unbreakable version of the unit and the one scheduled for next year is supposed to receive a 9 inch display, ARM processor and Google Android.
Negroponte also stated that he sees this as a dual mode display device, able to work both in sunlight and backlit conditions. Kids like to have fun outdoors, so this is good news for them. The question is whether or not they’ll be able to reach the desired price point…
