The S Pen stylus is bound for an innovation, after the Galaxy Note 3 didn’t quite revamp the stylus. Samsung is working on something new, apparently having to do with handwriting, judging by the recent patent application they had.

The new patent application describes a method of unlocking a display only if the Note recognizes the handwriting. You have to “record” your handwriting before you authenticate yourself in that way. I didn’t know that, but apparently the Note 2 and Note 3 already allow you to unlock the display using your signature.

Samsung wants even more, allowing a Note to perform actions straight via handwriting. For example you can write on the locked screen “Call mom” and the phone will unlock and start that action. I expect an avalanche of info about the Galaxy Note 4 to invade the web after the Galaxy S5 is launched.
