Over the past days several theories have been floating around, having to do with a late Fall Apple event that will bring us a new iPad. This time it’s the the iPad Pro X (2018), expected to appear either next Tuesday or closer to the month end. Let’s see what we know so far.

Previously we knew that Apple was prepping something special for the iPhone XS unveiling, but no tablet came up then. We’ve heard that the new iPad Pro (2018) would keep the 12.9 inch diagonal, but also ditch the Home button and fingerprint scanner. Instead it would have a notch and Face ID. There was also talk about a smaller model, with an 11 inch screen, in lieu of the 10.5 inch iPad Pro.

Some sources even mentioned a 4K display, which sounds a bit overkill, since Apple doesn’t upgrade resolutions so easily on tablets and phones. Now rumors say that we’ll also see a brand new version of the Apple Pencil debuting with the new iPad Pro X (2018). It’s expected to be paired with the iPad Pro by proximity, in similar fashion to the AirPods or HomePod.

Many rumors also talked about an USB Type-C port on the new iPad for some reason. A new unibody design is also slated for appearance, although I doubt it that Apple will be moving on to a glass back like the Galaxy Tab S4. It’s probably all metal again. The audio jack is also supposedly gone and the will be a vertical keyboard connector this time, according to leaked sketches.

iPhone X style status bar and gestures are pretty much a given, while the Animoji for iPad leak from months ago confirms the Face ID thingie. Specs wise, we should get 4 GB of RAM, an Apple A12 or A12X CPU and beefed up cameras, maybe even dual ones. It’s not very clear if the new iPads will see the light of day during an event or just be put to sale with a press release.
