Most phones have chased taller screens for years. Huawei is taking the opposite route with the Pura X View, a wide-format smartphone designed to give video, documents, games, and multitasking more horizontal room without moving to a foldable design. The device has launched in China with a 6.39-inch OLED panel using an uncommon 16:9.5 aspect ratio.
That shape is the central story. Although its diagonal is modest by flagship-phone standards, the Pura X View measures 87mm wide, compared with 144.1mm tall. Huawei says the display reaches a 96.1% screen-to-body ratio, with 1.05mm bezels. It has a 2232 x 1320 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, 2160Hz PWM dimming, and a claimed peak brightness of up to 6,500 nits in limited conditions. The phone is 6.68mm thick and weighs 201 grams, so the wider chassis does not come with a particularly thick body.
Built for long sessions away from an outlet
A 7,000mAh battery should be a major part of the appeal for anyone treating the extra display width as a productivity or entertainment feature. Huawei rates the Pura X View for 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It also carries IP68 and IP69 ratings, along with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, eSIM support, and USB-C.
The phone runs HarmonyOS 7 on Huawei’s Kirin 9030S processor, with 12GB of RAM across the lineup and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. Huawei claims the Kirin 9030S and HarmonyOS 7 combination delivers a 28% increase in overall performance against an unspecified reference generation used in its testing. The company’s broader claim is that the software can use the wider screen to better accommodate side-by-side work and landscape media.
A flagship camera array in a nontraditional shape
Huawei has equipped the Pura X View with a 200MP optically stabilized main camera, an 8MP ultrawide/macro camera, and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS and 3.7x optical zoom. There is also a second-generation Red Maple color camera. A 50MP front camera handles selfies, and both the front and main cameras support 4K video recording.

For now, the Pura X View is most notable as an attempt to bring some of a small tablet’s usable landscape space to a conventional, hinge-free phone.
