Huawei held a major event today, one focused on unveiling the finalized version of its new software platform, HarmonyOS. They also had some new hardware to show, such as the new Huawei MatePad Pro 10.8 and 12.6 inch tablets, as well as the MatePad 11. In this article we cover the Pro models.
Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 is the real flagship here, one that can go head to head with the latest iPads and Samsung Galaxy Tab models. Both MatePad Pros 2021 bring HarmonyOS 2.0 as the platform of choice. As rumored, the interface includes a dock bar at the bottom and also widgets. Multitasking is the core here and the homescreen also offers a control panel and a focus on reachability, which means that in app function bars have been moved to the side. Mouse support is also present and multiple desktop-like features too.
Multi screen collaboration is part of the experience and you can mirror your Huawei phone display on the MatePad, drag and drop files and answer calls. As far as hardware is concerned, Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 packs a 12.6 inch OLED display with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, but only at 60 Hz refresh rate. The 11.8 inch model opts for an IPS LCD with a 120 Hz refresh rate and the same resolution.
The front camera has been integrated into the middle of the side bezel, as an ideal placement for video calls. There’s HDR 10 support and also no less than 8 speakers on board, tuned by Harman/Kardon and 4 mics used to pick up the voice up to 5 meters in distance. The CPU of choice is a Kirin 9000E on the 12.6 inch model and a Snapdragon 870 on the 10.8 inch unit.
Both have 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage. At the back side we find a surprising triple camera with 3D depth sensor. The products have up to 14 hours of battery life via a big 10.000 mAh battery for the 12.6 inch and 7250 mAh battery on the 10.8 inch unit. We also get 40W fast charge on the big slate, 27W wireless charging and even reverse charge. A new M-Pencil stylus is part of the equation and also a smart magnetic keyboard. The new Huawei MatePad Pros come in gray, green and white.
The 12.6 will cost 799 euros and the 10.8 incher has yet to be priced.
