Chuwi MiniBook 8 is a brand new 8 inch laptop, that just hit Indiegogo this week. It starts at $429 and it’s an 8 inch touchscreen, 2 in 1 rotating device, with an Intel CPU inside.
This is the first mini laptop from Chuwi and it comes with an 8 inch 1920 x 1200 pixel display, with touch input and a 360 degree hinge. It lets you use the device as both a tablet or laptop. There’s 8 GB of RAM here, 128 GB of eMMC storage and an Intel Celeron N4100 processor in the $429 version. The $529 model has an Intel Core m3-8100Y processor.
The mini laptops should start shipping in September. Quantities will be limited at first, but the prices will grow later on. MiniBook doesn’t use a full sized keyboard, but a mini version of that, with keys that are small and close together. There’s no touchpad below the keyboard, but more of an optical touch sensor in the middle of a split space bar.
There’s also a 2 MP webcam and microphone in the mix. Expandable storage is also here, like an M.2 slot, that you can use to add a PCIe NVMe SSD for the Core M3 model or a SATA SSD for the Celeron version. LPDDR3 is used for the first version and LPDDR4 for the second. One of the big pluses for the device is the fingerprint sensor in the Power button.
We also get a 26.6 Wh battery, USB Type-C port for charging and a mini HDMI port. USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports are also here. It all weighs less than 1.5 pounds and the wireless connectivity goes up to WiFi ac and Bluetooth 5. A potential 4G model may also pop up later. You can order the device from here.
