Most laptops make a battery replacement or storage upgrade an involved job. Acer’s upcoming Vero 16 takes a different route: its bottom cover can be opened without a screwdriver, providing access to a user-replaceable battery and PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.
The 16-inch laptop also separates the areas around its ports, which Acer says should allow damage in one location to be addressed without dismantling a large part of the chassis. The external hinge is detachable as well. Those choices put repairability at the forefront of the Vero line’s sustainability-focused approach to portable computing.
A processor upgrade promise with details still missing
Acer is promising processor upgrades for at least two generations, a more unusual commitment for a conventional laptop. The company has not yet explained the mechanism for those upgrades, so it is unclear which components would be replaced, what configurations will qualify, or how the program would be handled.
At launch, the Vero 16 is set to use Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors from the Panther Lake family, topping out at a Core Ultra X9 388H with Intel Arc B390 graphics. Higher-end configurations are rated for up to 180 TOPS of total AI performance.
OLED display and modern I/O for mobile work
The Vero 16 can be configured with a 16-inch OLED panel at up to 2880 x 1800 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Acer rates the display for 400 nits of brightness and full DCI-P3 color coverage, pairing it with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 71Wh battery.
