Panasonic just debuted a new tablet today, a 10 inch rugged slate dubbed Panasonic Toughbook A3. This device stands out thanks to its swappable battery and the ability to take on the elements. It offers a 10.1 inch IPS LCD screen with a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution and we have more info about it below.
The device reaches a level of brightness of 800 nits and also comes with 5 configurable physical buttons around the bezel, plus volume controls and a Power button. There are dual swappable batteries here, plus a built in stylus, a full size USB-A port and USB-C port, as well as dual SIM slots. The target audience isn’t the general public, but rather first responders, emergency service personnel and field service agents.
This Toughbook offers IP65 dust and water resilience, plus it’s MIL-STD-810H compliant. Panasonic offers on it the Panasonic Compass suite for enterprise management tools. This means it’s got some modularity and various companies can tweak it and upgrade it with a barcode scanner, smart card reader and a second USB-A port. There’s a 5 megapixel selfie cam here and a single 8 MP back shooter. Internal specs include a Snapdragon 660 CPU, together with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, as well as a microSD card slot.
There’s also Android 9.0 Pie in the mix and support for all the big Global Positioning services. The two 3200 mAh batteries promise up to 8 hours of continuous usage and can be swapped on the go. Panasonic even provides 5500 mAh cells, which give a total of 15 hours of usage on a single charge. It all weighs 1.98 lbs and measures 16.5 mm in thickness.
The price tag is $1466 and the product goes on sale in August.
