Panasonic is one of the big names in the field of rugged devices, including laptops and tablets. Their Toughbook lineup is legendary and today it gets completed by a Toughbook S1 rugged slate with extendable battery and a quite hefty price tag: $1294.
The Panasonic Toughbook S1 tablet has debuted in the Indian market for now and it comes with entry level specs, or let’s say midrange at best. Available in a single colour, the product has a black coloured back side and silver edges. It sports a rugged body and a 7 inch WXGA display (1200 x 800 pixels), with an LCD panel that has thick bezels. Specs include a 13 megapixel camera at the back and a 5 MP shooter upfront.
The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 CPU, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 storage, plus an Adreno 512 GPU. The tablet is marketed towards segments like logistics, transportation and other sectors where ruggedness is key. It comes with a 3200 mAh base battery and a 5580 mAh extendable battery. It promises up to 8 hours of battery backup with the 3200 mAh cell, while the bigger one offers up to 14 hours of battery life.
On the rugged side of things there’s IPx6 certification, IPx5 and IPx7 water and dust resilience. The tablet offers 4G LTE, dual band Wi-Fi, NFC and an USB-C port, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack.
