Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is a tablet we’ve been covering for a while now, but without actual proof about its existence. There’s a fresh rumor in China that the device is indeed coming, but not anytime soon. Leading credence to the info, a Chinese analyst, Pan Jiutang has the scoop on the product.
Considering he says that the slate is stuck in R&D limbo, we’re in for quite the wait. He shared the info via Weibo, the famous Chinese social network. Sadly, that’s where the info starts and stops. It’s also true that Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun mentioned a while ago that the company was working on a new tablet, but didn’t mention the Mi Pad 4 by name.
Xiaomi also removed its whole tablet lineup from its official site and the tablet category is also gone. This may mean the the firm isn’t going to launch such a device anytime soon, in spite of the Lei Jun statements. We may well see a sort of spinoff company, like Huawei has Honor, Lenovo had ZUK and ZTE has Nubia. the Mi Pad 3 was announced in April last year, so it’s about time for an update.
It’s easy to speculate on what Xiaomi will deliver: probably a bigger diagonal, a MediaPad rival or a Galaxy Tab S rival. I expect the 13 MP camera from the Mi Pad 3 to stay unchanged, we may see a 10 inch and 8 inch version of the device. The screen most likely remains an IPS LCD, since there aren’t many OLED tablets out there. 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM are a given, plus a Snapdragon or MediaTek CPU, more likely MediaTek.
Stereo or even quad speakers should be present, as well as the latet MIUI on top of Oreo.
