For a long while we’ve thought about Project Ara as a handset project/prototype, that involves modular pieces, but now a tablet appeared in the equation. The device surfaced in the GFXBench benchmark and it’s shown below.

Google was supposed to launch a pilot project in 2015, but now they hope to start rollout this year. Listed on GFXBench, the device seems to have a 13.8 inch display with Full HD resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Two storage modules of 10 and 25 GB are present, but we tend to take everything with a grain of salt.

The usual sensors and wireless hardware are included, plus front and rear cameras, GPS and Bluetooth. The cameras are underwhelming, at 0.3 MP and VGA resolution, but we expect them to be upgradable via modules. Seeing the resolution and diagonal and knowing what Project Ara is all about, we can’t help but think of an ASUS PadFone-like setup.
