The Apple fourth generation iPad was part of the big iPad Mini event in October and it was launched this week together with the smaller slate. After the iPad Mini was taken apart and its insides and secrets were exposed, it’s time for the iPad 4 to get exposed, for us all to analyze and check out. This new 9.7 inch tablet brings few extra items to the table, but important ones like the Apple A6X processor.
It also gets the new Lightning connector instead of the older 30 pin dock connector. It also has a Retina Display and iFixit says that they would have liked Apple to take advantage of the space freed up by the lack of the 30 pin port to implement larger speakers. The slate comes with a 9.7 inch LCD display a backlit in plane switching LED with a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution and 16, 32 or 64 GB of storage. There’s also a 5 megapixel rear camera and obviously the whole device is glued shut, keeping the pure Apple tradition.
The iPad is filled with adhesive applied to various parts. The opening process was pretty hard for iFixit, who are skilled people in this area. It takes a heating process to make the adhesive easier to work with and the thing to know here is that while the screen of the iPad Mini is made by Samsung the one on the iPad 4 is made by LG. The battery is the same as the one on the iPad 3 and it’s very securely stuck to the rear case. Also, compared to the iPad 3, the camera is a bit thicker, with an extra 0.4 mm, but it fits the same space, more or less.
