It’s a fact that Windows tablets are both expensive and have crappy battery lives… and no one can deny that. Wintel is an example of combo of tablet PCs (Windows + Intel) with high prices, in the range of $599 to $899 and the reason for these amounts of money are the inclusion of Intel and Microsoft technologies on board.

In case you’re wondering, know that both MS and Intel don’t want to drop the hardware/software prices, so that’s why slates are so pricey. Consumers may end up buying something else and in times like these an iPad sounds awfully tempting. However, both Intel and Microsoft are struggling to finally meet that affordable price point, at least for Windows 8 and the Intel Clover Trail W chipset, if they want to make a big splash on the slate market.

Notebook vendors are also expecting this price drop for Intel chips, else they might even select ARM solutions from Nvidia, Qualcomm and TI for their Windows 8 tablets to keep the costs down. With Google also preparing its own $200 tablet, the war on price has become a tough one…
