This week’s Xiaomi event was huge, so huge actually it was expanded to two days. After all it featured both a Mi 11 Ultra flagship phone and also Xiaomi’s very first foldable handset, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold. Now we’re learning that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 tablet is going to borrow design elements from it.
We’ve been hearing rumors and seeing renders for the Mi Pad 5 for a while now, with one such render showing a camera design akin to the Mi 11. Many expected to see the new slate during this week’s conference, but that didn’t pan out. A pretty famous Weibo tipster is now sharing info about the tablet and saying that the device will have display functions similar to the folding screen ones from the Mi Mix Fold. We’re expecting those related to multitasking, like dual screen drag and drop, parallel windows and a Desktop Mode.
The Weibo blogger also claims that the PPI of the screen won’t be very high, but high refresh rate is in the cards. Inside we’re supposed to find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processor, which may well be the Snapdragon 870. Previous reports had the tablet sounding like a gaming device, with an 11 inch Quad HD screen with 144 Hz refresh rate and up to 480 Hz touch sampling rate on an LCD panel. A slim metal body and quad speakers tuned by Harman Kardon are also likely, since Harman also aided with the Mi 11 acoustics.
