Toshiba has recently unveiled the Portege M930, a combo between a tablet and a notebook, that actually looks nice. It reminds me of a similar concept tablet from the Sony Vaio line showcased at CES 2012. We’re dealing here with a device that was also on display in Vegas last week and this hybrid will allow the user to swap from the slate experience to notebook mode and viceversa.
You simply need to lift up the display backwards and fold it back down, as if you were closing a laptop lid. Thus, you will transform the device from notebook to tablet. Portege M930 runs on Windows and comes with a bunch of powerful specs, including a 13.3 inch display, an Intel Core i5 CPU and 4GB of RAM. There’s also a 256GB SSD on board and as far as design goes, don’t quite expect the thinnest model in town, since this unit is pretty bulky…
The idea here is to combine the tablet experience with the one of a laptop and give the user everything he craves for. Availability and price weren’t mentioned, but I guess this machine will be pretty expensive, since it has both the innovative format and hardware on its side as advantages. I’m very interested in the battery life of this unit and maybe the future intentions of Toshiba in this laptop/tablet segment, that will become more appealing with Android and fit specs.
