Who would have thought the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 was getting Android 8.0 Oreo? Considering even the Galaxy S6 got denied, that makes the update all the more spectacular. A bunch of Galaxy Tab S3 owners in the UK have confirmed the arrival of the latest software package, as Oreo is now rolling out to the slate.
Interestingly Samsung UK also had the jump on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7, rolling out the Oreo update for them fast as well. The update for the Tab S3 came in both WiFi and LTE tablet flavours (SM-T820 and SM-T825). Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 gets the Oreo release T820XXU1BRE2, arriving with the April 2018 security patch, as it should. The firmware or the WiFi model is also up for download on Sammobile’s site/database.
The update will come over the air and you can trigger it by going into the Setting app, going into the Software Update menu and tap Download Updates Manually. As far as the new functionality is concerned, the Tab S3 is getting both the Oreo and Samsung Experience 9.0 software and functionality. They’re the same stuff seen on the Galaxy S8 and Note 8.
The slate also receive the Dolby Atmos support, which is another nifty addition to its functionality. The arrival of the Tab S3 could also signal we’re getting closer to a Galaxy Tab S4 release. Oreo also means notification dots, snooze for notifications, some UI tweaks, improved battery management and beefed up security. A reorganized Quick Settings and Settings area are also here.
