The original 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab slate is in the news again, a sign that this well sold model is not forgotten yet. This time, we find out that the tablet has received the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in some parts of the UK.

Announced back in May, this software upgrade has been awaited by many Galaxy Tab owners. Some of them already have the software, like the customers of the US carrier Sprint. Eurodroid is the source of the claim concerning the Gingerbread update rollout in the UK right now. Unlocked devices go first, as usual, so it may take a while for carriers to adapt to this upgrade.

Samsung has yet to make a claim regarding the update and it would be strange if it started rolling out without them announcing it. This is not an over the air upgrade, so it relies on Samsung’s Kies desktop software. It may not be Honeycomb, but it’s good enough.
