Samsung Canada just detailed the rollout of the Android 4.0 ICS update on the Galaxy devices. That seems to include both phones and tablets. Samsung says that the rollout begins today for select devices and will be released throughout the quarter, depending on device and carrier.
The list includes Galaxy S II, S II LTE, S II LTE HD, Galaxy S II X, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 7.0, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1. Android 4.0 will increase the performance and battery life of these models and bring them Face Unlock and Android Beam (for NFC enabled models). I guess that the handsets will have priority, but hopefully sometimes before the summer kicks in we’ll see at least half of these tablets updated. It’s strange to see how long some companies are taking to update their slates.
Just look at Motorola and the Xoom 2, or Samsung and all the Galaxy Tabs. Meanwhile, ASUS updated the Transformer Prime and Eee Pad Transformer months ago, so kudos for that. Acer also updated its Iconia Tab line over the past weeks, so they did well, too.
