The figure looks especially steep next to the competition. Panesar puts the equivalent Galaxy Z Fold 8 repair at £594, or about $800, which would make the estimated Apple repair roughly 43% more expensive. He attributes the gap to first-generation construction: Apple is said to be using Samsung Display panels alongside its own 3D-printed hinge, while independent repair shops may initially lack both experience with the device and an ample parts supply.

AppleCare+ may not be immune, either. Panesar believes Apple could charge about £100, or roughly $135, for a repair on a covered foldable—above fees seen on some conventional iPhones. He also flags a side-mounted Touch ID system, which recent iPhone Ultra rumors say could return in place of Face ID. A biometric sensor integrated into a button is not the kind of component every repair shop can replace in minutes.
Apple has officially scheduled its September 9 fall event, but the company has not confirmed the iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold name, the phone’s price, or repair fees.
