Panasonic brought to the market this week a brand new 2 in 1 notebook-tablet hybrid, that packs an Intel 10th Gen CPU and also a hot swappable battery. This is actually a refresh of the current Toughbook 33, which comes with a 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10810U vPro processor, as well as up to 32 GB of RAM.
You can also get up to 1 TB of SSD storage here. The convertible is also known as Toughbook 33 Mk 2 and provides a variety of memory configurations and rich port selection. There’s also a touch-based fingerprint scanner and modern connectivity options like WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and dual SIM (eSIM and physical). Of course, it’s a rugged machine and therein lies the selling point. This is an IP65-rated device, that uses magnesium alloy and also comes with MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F certifications.
The product also has dual hot swappable batteries, meaning you can replace the depleted battery pack sans shutting down the unit. We’re also getting a 10 megapixel infrared front camera and an 8 megapixel main shooter. The screen has received quite the upgrade compared to the predecessor, thanks to a 12 inch Quad HD panel with 3:2 aspect. Optional customization options include a serial port, barcode, fingerprint scanner for Windows Hello authentication, insertable and contacless SmartCard CAC readers and FirstNet Ready CF-33 EM7511 Band 14 Mobile Broadband.
It all weighs 3.4 lbs and measures 0.9 inches in thickness. The estimated battery life is about 10 hours. No price yet, but I’m sure it’s hefty.
