A brand new patent application that surfaced online shows images of a mystery Nokia tablet, one that packs a kickstand and apparently was patented even before the Microsoft Surface tablet existed. You can see a sketch of the device below:

It’s clear now that Nokia has been working on a tablet, as confirmed back in December by sources familiar with Nokia projects for The Verge. They were claiming at the time that the device would use a special cover that envelops it just like a book. Said cover is supposed to include a keyboard a and kickstand for the Nokia device.

The patent application is not directly related to a Windows Nokia tablet, but I find it hard to believe it will run anything else. What bothers me is a potential conspiracy theory, saying that Nokia may have put its plans on hold, allowing Surface Tablet to thrive… and it didn’t even do that. Will this device ever see the light of day?
