Amazon may have just launched a new Kindle e-book reader, but apparently they’re not done. There’s a fresh leak from GFXBench, that seems to detail a new Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8 slate model.
This is expected to be a revamped version of the device, but it does also sport some strange downgrades. Amazon’s latest Fire tablet launches were those of the Fire HD 10 and 7 inch Fire models last fall. Amazon could simply opt to refresh its Kindle Fire HD lineup without a proper launch or even just replace the old one with a new slate.
Codenamed “KFGIWI”, the device packs a MediaTek MT8163 processor, that replaces the MediaTek MT8134 of the predecessor. We also get a bump of 512 MB of RAM, up to 1.5 GB and the screen seems to remain at 8 inches and 1280 x 800 pixels, possibly with a new panel, that Amazon should promote with fancy terms. The rear camera does down to 2 MP from 5 MP and the storage is listed by GFXBench at 5 GB, but I assume it’s in fact 8 GB.
We expect a price in the same range as the $149 of the current model… or maybe even lower.
